Effects of Hybridization on Tensile, Flexural, and Damage Behaviors of Flax/Carbon Epoxy Composites

In recent years, the hybridization of natural fibers with synthetic has received much attention. This paper conducted an experimental study on tensile and flexural behavior unidirectional carbon/flax fiber reinforced epoxy composites single flax fibers. Four rates were considered for 16 layers in a symmetric staking sequence, carbon ply at surface. The damage evolution under load increase was monitored using acoustic emission (AE) technique. Davies–Bouldin index K-means clustering algorithm used to correlate contribution each mechanism overall failure. AE monitoring behaviors showed that delamination breakage mechanisms dominate composite failure, regardless rate.
